Here—–part 1

The Posting…

When I left off yesterday, I had just told you that I came across a job posting.  Yes, you read that right…. I was browsing the internet one evening while Creg was on nights.  Knowing that we are a blended family I had really kept my searches within the 1 hour range.  Sure, I saw some postings for larger cities that would require some big moves, but I always just kept scrolling…..until I stopped.  For some reason, I stopped scrolling and actually clicked on the posting.  I went to the church website and explored.  I was intrigued!  Creg was on nights for a few more days and I didn’t say anything, but I did sart following the Pastors on Facebook and Instagram (ya’ know…social stalking).  There was something there.  So I mentioned it to Creg.  He LAUGHED…Not kidding.  He literally laughed and said “Elizabeth, that’s like going form Little League to the Majors!” (always throwing baseball in there) And my slightly snarky response, “Fine, don’t even try.  Maybe it’s out of your league, but you’ll never know.”  So he applied…..and within a few days had an email that they wanted to set up a time to chat and get to know him a little more!!!  Oh crap, what have I done?

I guess I lit a fire under him because he also applied for a job that he found in Chicago.  City Church Chicago, a Hillsong affiliate,  is right downtown.  Creg loves Chicago and was pretty excited when they, too, called to set up an interview.  I was less than excited to even consider a job in the heart of downtown Chicago.  I like to go visit downtown for a day and then I’m good for quite a while.  I told him to go ahead with the interview.  It doesn’t’ hurt to gain more experience interviewing.  They scheduled the interview, then called to reschedule, then had the interview, then wanted to schedule another one, then messaged to say that they had been crazy busy and still wanted to schedule, then nothing……whew!

Back to the job that I found….

All of that with Chicago happened in the middle of going through the process with the job I originally found.  If there is one thing I have learned over the last 5 months….churches are SLOW, but I’ve decided that’s not all bad.

So…..Creg had sent a few emails back and forth trying to schedule his initial interview, but nothing had been scheduled yet.  Reed and Lillie had a dance competition (back in March) coming up in the general area of the church.  We decided it was perfect timing to cheer on the girls and check out the church before he had the interview.  It was incredible.  We both had the same feelings after church.  The message given was exactly what we needed to hear.  It was like they knew we were going to be there.  Okay, now I’m starting to freak out.  There was something there.  Something just felt right, but I can’t take my kids away from their daddy…….

“Go ahead and interview.  You said it was a shot in the dark anyway.  Get some interview experience and be proud of yourself knowing that you even got an interview!”  And then the interview went well……really well…..  They wanted him to come down to run sound for their Tuesday night MidWeek Worship Experience.  Now I’m panicked.  This wasn’t supposed to happen.  How did it get this far?  I continued to watch live online and every time felt a stronger push that Creg needed to stick with this.  He put a Tuesday on the calendar.  As it approached I started to get really nervous.  I found this job, pushed him to apply, and now I’m going to have to keep him from it because I can’t take my kiddos from their dad and Creg’s oldest (17 year old son) had just moved in with us full time and I was on complete stress overload.

Monday morning (Creg is scheduled to run sound the next evening), my phone rings.  It’s my kids’ dad…..Instant panic!  He NEVER calls me.  He tells me he’s being transferred out of state…….WHAT?!?!  We had speculated and heard rumors from many, but until we heard from him, we weren’t sure.  Well, that was an answer we needed….One major hurdle was out of the way.  With our new knowledge, we headed down the next day.  It went as well as can be expected when you go to run sound on a board that’s pre-programmed, but you don’t know their programs or the voices that you are mixing for.  I thought maybe this was where it stopped, but a couple of weeks later they called for him to come down and run sound at their Saturday service.  We went, he mixed, and they liked it… a lot!

Fast forward, lots of prayer mixed in this time frame, many live online services watched that seemed to answer each question we had about the job, and most recently a full week spent working for the church as they prepared for a HUGE Women’s Conference.  They offered Creg the position!!!!!!

You can find my pre-conference post here and recap here.  And purchase some new reading material here.

Where Are We Going?

We are headed to Faith Church.  The church has 3 locations in the St. Louis area and another in West Palm Beach, FL!  After spending the week there working, it was pretty clear that God was calling us to St. Louis.  I still resisted…..who am I kidding, I’m still resisting!   I’m scared out of my mind!  What I do know is that every question has been answered, every hurdle has been knocked down, and no matter how much I want to tell God he’s wrong, it’s clear as day that we are supposed to make this move.

One Last Hurdle

Okay, a few more hurdles…… We have to sell our home, we have to find a home, we have to get the kids registered for school………. and we just over a month!!!!!!  Pray for us!  Pray for me!  I’m putting all of my trust in God.  If this is meant to be, it will all happen with ease (or as easily as any move can happen).
