Getting There….

Back in January/Feburary, Creg and I had the opportunity to have a few nights away!!! Just the 2 of us! Y’all we hadn’t had a single night without children in over 7 years!!! It was much needed, but I wish it could have been a little less stressful…..

Morgan dances on her high school dance team. They are a competitive team that competes at both the state and national level! They are pretty awesome! Nationals are held each year at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World. Initially, we considered taking a few kids with us and then decided we would wait at least another year for things to normalize just a bit more. Plus, trying to keep a mask on Penelope in an airplane sounded like pure torcher! Knowing Morgan would be under the care of the school district and not able to stay with us, we jumped on the chance to be away…..alone!!!

Enter snowmageddon……. We were all supposed to fly out on Wednesday, but Tuesday flights started canceling with the impending snow and ice. OH NO! Morgan’s team and another local school joined forces to hire a charter bus to drive the 16 hours. All was set to go until about an hour before and the charter company bailed!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! We came together as parents, divided the dancers among various parent cars and drove the girls to Nationals! The girls were getting there and dancing….that’s really all that mattered at that point.

3AM Ice Cream Stop

Creg and I booked another flight for Thursday hoping that the ice would be out of the way and the snow wouldn’t be a huge issue. WRONG! 4AM Thursday morning, our flight was canceled and rescheduled for Thursday afternoon….okay, it’s fine. Just a few hours delayed……. we were literally about 30 minutes from for the airport when that afternoon flight canceled. I wanted to cry (I did cry) for a few reason. One, I was going to miss my daughter on the Nationals floor. Two, Creg and I desperately needed this time away. I called Southwest. The sweet lady was AMAZING! I told her our story and she did everything she could. She got us on a flight that evening into Jacksonville and booked a rental car for us to drive the last 2.5 hours to our resort. I held my breath until we were in the air. Even as we boarded the plane, I was afraid we wouldn’t take off!!! We pulled into the resort about 11PM and went straight to sleep.

The Resort

Getting in late at night, we didn’t take it all in until the sun came up. WOW! What a gorgeous resort! Heated pools for year round use! What a great place to unwind for a few days.

I wish we would have had more time to spend enjoying all of the resort amenities. See the full room tour at the bottom of this post or view it directly on Youtube

ESPN/Disney Springs

Most of our time was spent on the Disney property between ESPN and Disney Springs. We cheered on our girl, shopped, ate, and walked a lot.

Can’t wait to go back again in 2023 for another fabulous NDTC competition!
