Homemade Freezer French Fries

Who loves French Fries???

Recently, our local Schnucks Grocery Store had 5 pound bags of potatoes on sale for $.99 a bag!!! They had run out by the time I got there to grab a bag so they issued a raincheck for 4 bags……So, earlier this week I cashed it in for 20 pounds of potatoes for less than $4.00!!!! Of course that’s a great deal, but that’s A LOT of potatoes! Time to stock the freezer with French Fries!!! If you follow my instagram, you might know that I’m slightly addicted to them. #sorrynotsorry

How To Make Freezer French Fries

1. Wash and peel (if you want to…I don’t peel) your desired amount of potatoes.

2. Slice potatoes into desired shape. You could do diced, shred them for hash browns, steak fries, or we just do long strips.

3. Blanch cut potatoes in salted boiling water for about 5 minutes. Salt the water generously and you won’t have to add salt later. I don’t change the water between batches of blanching.

4. Use a slotted spoon to lift out the potatoes and lay them out on a cookie sheet. If you want, this is the time to add any seasoning to your french fries. We usually make some plain and some with season salt and garlic.

5. Place the cookie sheet of french fries in the freezer for about 30 minutes. This step is super important. If you skip it, you will end up with a bag of mush when you go to bake your french fries. We usually bake some immediately, too. I mean, why not? French fries are staples at this house!

6. Once your french fries are sightly frozen, you can put them in a freezer bag and store for use later! My family loves them just as much as any store bought brand….maybe better!

That’s it! I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!!

I love this! I always plan to make fries from scratch, and then I run out of time (or energy!) at the last minute. I could add this to my Sunday meal prep and actually be prepared for those nights. Thanks so much for the idea!

It’s so worth it! Especially when potatoes go on sale! They don’t last very long in this house!

These sound amazing. I love anything potato. For some reason, I never think to make my own french fries though. I always buy frozen. I’ll be trying these out in the near future. Thank you!

Remember to salt the water and you won’t even have to add salt afterwards!

Great idea, and I’m sure a money saver from store bought frozen fries (even if you don’t get a killer deal on potatoes 🙂 At what temp and how long do you usually bake them after frozen?

I do 450 and honestly, I just kinda watch them. We know the “look” when they are done. Probalby about 20 minutes for us. =)

Great idea! I make homemade fries all the time in my air fryer, and this would be a great time saver. Very smart!

I just told my husband I thought we should get an air fryer. I saw someone make pepperoni chips in the air fryer and am sold!
