Just go with it

Young and Dumb

Let’s go back in time 10 years to when my Andrew was this age. Heck, we could go back only a few years. My older three were always dressed to impress. I knew all the little boutique lines. The girls always had bows in their hair.  We had outfits that we only wore once. Shoes that we wore once and they went back in the box.  Closets FULL of clothes…..not for them, they were too young to care, it was for me!  I was young dumb….. wait…I’m still young (or at least I like to think I am).

I had a boy first. He allowed this dressing him to go on until about age 7 (it was really about age 5 he started fighting me on some things). Now (at almost 12) he’s in athletic pants and a t-shirt everyday.  I do make him put on a collared shirt for church (only the last year has he stopped fighting me on this).  I keep thinking hoping that when he starts to notice girls his wardrobe will shift a little.

The girls I got to dress a little longer. Miss Morgan still likes to dress to impress….yay! Julianne was a free spirit from the start.  Clothes didn’t look the same after she wore them. It was a good thing we had a lot left from Morgan and that we weren’t going to need them again.   I started realizing with her that it’s okay for them to look like a kid …at home. When we were out in public, she looked like I had ironed her (I probably had).

I’m Wiser Now

Maybe it’s that I’m older, maybe it’s the fourth child, maybe it’s different family dynamics, maybe it’s the 7 year age gap, maybe it’s a combination of all……

This is how we roll these days. And I’m okay with it!  He loves Thomas and tigers. He’s happy. His clothes are clean. If he wants to wet Thomas pajama shorts to the bowling alley or his Halloween costume to the library in January (see those here and here), it’s okay!   I’m a lot less stressed out about keeping his clothes stain free. If he decorates himself with ketchup, we throw that shirt away.  Do you know how good it feels to relax a little?!?!  I totally laughed as I typed that!   I’m still not sure exactly what relax means … I’m getting there (or closer). Here’s a close up….I’m thinking he may be onto something.  Just wait Tommy Bahama…..Daxton Paul is out for your job!  He is color coordinated and even has on Thomas the Train socks to match!

……..and just to show you that I do still “care” about their apperance……..I even coordinate them on occasion (throwback to a favorite from the summer….warm weather is coming, right?)

I LOVE reading your blogs! In years passed I noticed your kiddos were always dressed to the 9s. Awesome! I was sort of that way too. ? As time passes, other things become more important. Enjoy your kiddos! They will want to look “classy” in time.?
